The Ruins of Vagastia is an indie title featuring beautifully illustrated tribal-inspired characters, creatures, and bosses.
For this project, my role focused on transforming static artwork by @MattoonVArtist into fully animated 2D characters using Spine.
My main contributions included:
• Preparing character, creature, and boss illustrations by cutting and organizing them into clean layered parts.
• Repainting and reconstructing cut areas to ensure smooth deformation during animation.
• Building complete Spine rigs with bones, controllers, weights, constraints and physics.
• Creating expressive animation sets for heroes, bosses, and tribal creatures.
• Ensuring motion clarity, dynamic posing, and a cohesive visual style across all animated assets.
The project was a great opportunity to blend art cleanup, technical rigging, and expressive cutout animation to bring Mattoon’s artwork to life.
